Holiday Cleaning Checklist: Prep Your Home for Guests
• Refrigerator: If you have an odor in your refrigerator, mix together equal parts of water and vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray and wipe as needed. Leaving an open box of baking soda will also absorb odors for at least a month or two
• Dishwasher: Fill a dishwasher-safe cup with vinegar and place it on the top rack. The dishwasher should be empty.
Run the dishwasher on the hottest, longest cycle. This will sanitize and loosen food and soap scum.
• Microwave: Fill a microwave-safe bowl with 1 cup of water and 2 tbs of either baking soda or lemon juice and place it in the microwave. Heat, uncovered, until the water starts to boil (about 2 minutes). Wipe down the surface of the microwave with a sponge or cloth.
• Oven: Heat the oven to 125 degrees Farenheit, spray vinegar all over the surface and then pour salt on the areas. Turn off the oven and let it cool. Use a wet towel to scrub away the mess. Another alternative is using baking soda instead of salt.
• Blender: Fill your blender halfway with water and about 1/4 teaspoon of dish liquid and run it. Easy - just don't use to much soap!
• Coffee Maker: Run a vinegar-water mixture through the machine to help clean it out.
• Garbage Disposal: Add 1 cup of vinegar into an ice cube tray. Top off with water. Let it freeze. Toss a few ice cubes down the drain and run the disposal.
